Study in the UK: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa

Study in UK

Studying in the UK: how we help

Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in the UK: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the Student visa application. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS, with one application for up to five courses. Most bachelor’s degrees take three years and most taught Master’s degrees take one.

Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.

Study in UK

Studying in the UK: the essentials

  • Applying: undergraduate applications go through UCAS, one application for up to five courses. Master’s applicants apply to each university.
  • Intakes: September or October. Some Master’s courses also start in January.
  • Length: three years for most bachelor’s degrees (four in Scotland) and one year for most Master’s degrees.
  • What is assessed: school marks in the subjects the course requires, a personal statement about the chosen subject and a reference. Some courses and universities set their own admission tests.
  • Visa: the Student visa. It can be applied for up to 6 months before the course starts, the fee from outside the UK is £558, and a decision usually comes within 3 weeks.
  • Money to show: the unpaid first-year tuition plus £1,529 a month for courses in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months, held for at least 28 days in a row.
  • After the degree: the Graduate visa lasts 2 years for applications made on or before 31 December 2026 and 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates get 3 years.

How we work with students applying to the UK

A UK application is about one subject. The personal statement has to show that the student has read and done things beyond the school syllabus in that subject, so we begin that reading and those activities at least a year before the application. We also make sure the Class 11 and 12 subjects match what the course requires: a missing subject cannot be repaired later.

Students guided by Global Careers have been admitted to universities including LSE and LBS.

The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.

Frequently asked questions

Through UCAS for a bachelor’s degree: one application, up to five courses, with predicted or final Class 12 marks, a personal statement and a school reference. Master’s applications are made to each university with the degree transcripts, a statement of purpose and references.

Usually not. Most courses admit on school marks, the personal statement and the reference. A few courses, such as medicine and some courses at the most selective universities, have their own tests. An English test is needed unless the university waives it.

On the Graduate visa: 2 years if the application is made on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months if it is made from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates get 3 years. This was the rule on gov.uk in October 2026.

Tuition differs by university and course. A one-year Master’s keeps the total lower than a two-year degree elsewhere. We prepare a cost sheet for every university on the shortlist: tuition, living costs, insurance and travel for each year of the degree. Plan on meeting the full cost without income from part-time work.

No. Global Careers guides students on admissions and student visas only. Permanent residency and work visas are immigration matters decided by the government of the UK, and the rules change often. Please check the official government website.
