Study in Australia: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa
Studying in Australia: how we help
Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in Australia: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the Student visa (subclass 500) application. Australian universities have two main intakes, in February and in July.
Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.
Studying in Australia: the essentials
- Applying: directly to each university. The university issues a letter of offer and then a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), which the visa application needs.
- Intakes: February or March, and July.
- Length: three years for most bachelor’s degrees, one to two years for a Master’s.
- Visa: the Student visa (subclass 500). From 1 July 2026 the fee is from A$2,500 per application.
- Genuine Student requirement: the applicant answers set questions showing that study is the real reason for coming to Australia.
- Money to show: at least A$29,710 for living costs, as well as course fees and travel.
- Work during study: up to 48 hours a fortnight during term and without limit in scheduled course breaks.
- After the degree: the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), for applicants aged 35 or under, with some exceptions.

How we work with students applying to Australia
For Australia the Genuine Student statement carries as much weight as the marks. The student has to explain, consistently and in their own words, why this course, why Australia and how it follows from what they have studied. We work on that reasoning before the application, not after.
Australia has raised its visa fee and its financial requirement and has tightened the rules for graduates since 2024, so we check the current position for each student.
The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.
Frequently asked questions
Directly to each university, with Class 10 and 12 marks or the degree transcripts and an approved English test. Once the offer is accepted and the deposit paid, the university issues the Confirmation of Enrolment for the visa.
It replaced the earlier Genuine Temporary Entrant test in March 2024. The applicant answers written questions about their circumstances, the choice of course and what the course will do for them, and attaches evidence. The answers have to agree with the rest of the application.
Up to 48 hours a fortnight while the course is in session and without limit in scheduled breaks. This was the rule on the Australian Government’s Study Australia website in October 2026.
Tuition differs by university and course. The visa application alone now costs from A$2,500. We prepare a cost sheet for every university on the shortlist: tuition, living costs, insurance and travel for each year of the degree. Plan on meeting the full cost without income from part-time work.
