MS, MBA and PhD Admissions Consulting: India and Abroad

Planning a Master’s, an MBA or a PhD?

Global Careers guides graduates and final-year students through admission to Master’s, MBA and PhD programmes in India and abroad: choosing the course and the universities, planning the tests, and preparing the applications. The work is led by Dr. Manish Mittal, who has guided students since 2000.

Students guided by Global Careers have been admitted to universities including the University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, LSE, LBS, NUS, NTU and SMU.

What we help with

  • The decision itself: whether to study further now or after some work experience, which matters most for an MBA.
  • Course: for example an MS or an MEng, an MBA or a Master’s in Management, or a specialised degree in finance or analytics.
  • Country and universities: a shortlist based on fit, programme quality, cost, scholarships and work prospects after the degree, not on rankings alone.
  • Tests: which test each university requires and what score to aim for. We coach for the GRE and IELTS in small batches, and for the GMAT and TOEFL on request. See SAT, GRE and IELTS.
  • Applications: guidance on the statement of purpose, essays, CV and letters of recommendation.
  • Visa: student visa guidance once the admission is confirmed.

A Master’s abroad

Most students should begin 12 to 18 months before the intake they are aiming for. The usual order is:

  • decide the field and the kind of degree;
  • shortlist countries and universities, with ambitious, realistic and safe choices;
  • take the GRE or GMAT if required, and IELTS or TOEFL;
  • prepare the statement of purpose, CV and recommendations;
  • apply, compare offers and funding, and then apply for the visa.

See study abroad consulting for the countries we guide students to.

An MBA: in India or abroad

In India, admission to the IIMs and most other business schools is through entrance exams such as CAT and XAT. We advise on which exams and schools suit the applicant. We do not coach for these exams.

Abroad, most full-time MBA programmes expect several years of work experience, and many accept either the GMAT or the GRE. For students finishing a first degree, a Master’s in Management is often the better route. We help the applicant choose between the two.

A PhD

We also guide PhD applicants: narrowing the research area, identifying departments and possible supervisors, shaping the research proposal, and understanding how funding works in each country.

Frequently asked questions

For most full-time MBA programmes, yes: several years is usual. If you are finishing your first degree, look at a Master’s in Management or a specialised Master’s instead.

Many business schools accept either, and most other Master’s programmes that ask for a test ask for the GRE. Check the requirement of each university on your list before you decide.

No. We advise on which exams and business schools suit you. The coaching we offer is for the GRE and IELTS, and for the GMAT and TOEFL on request.

Yes. We help you find universities where you have a realistic chance and strengthen the parts of the application you can still improve: test scores, the statement of purpose and relevant experience.

No. No consultant can. Universities decide admissions and embassies decide visas. We make sure the choices are sound and the applications are complete and well prepared.
