Study in Canada: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa
Studying in Canada: how we help
Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in Canada: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the study permit application. Canada has both universities and colleges, and the right choice depends on the course and on the student’s plans after it. The rules on study permits and on work after graduation have changed in recent years, so we check the current rules for each applicant.
Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.
Studying in Canada: the essentials
- Applying: directly to each university or college. Ontario’s universities share an application centre, OUAC.
- Intakes: September is the main intake. Some programmes also start in January or May.
- Length: four years for most bachelor’s degrees, one to two years for a Master’s.
- Study permit: the student needs a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution. Most applicants also need a provincial or territorial attestation letter; students starting a Master’s or doctoral degree at a public institution have been exempt since 1 January 2026.
- Money to show: first-year tuition and travel, plus C$23,448 for living costs for a single applicant studying outside Quebec (applications made on or after 1 September 2026).
- Work during study: eligible students may work up to 24 hours a week off campus during term and full time in scheduled breaks.
- After the degree: the post-graduation work permit (PGWP) runs from 8 months to 3 years depending on the programme. Not every programme qualifies, and most applicants must now submit language test results.

How we work with students applying to Canada
Canadian universities admit mainly on Class 11 and 12 marks in the subjects the programme requires. The decisions that need care are the province, the institution and the programme, because these now affect both the study permit and the work permit after graduation. We check the current rule for each programme on the shortlist before the student applies.
Canada has changed its rules for international students several times since 2024. Advice that was right two years ago may be wrong today.
The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.
Frequently asked questions
Directly to each university, or through OUAC for universities in Ontario, with Class 10, 11 and 12 marks and an English test. Some programmes ask for a personal profile or a supplementary application. Master’s applicants apply to the graduate school with transcripts, a statement and references.
It is an open work permit for graduates of eligible programmes at eligible institutions. Its length depends on the programme, from 8 months to 3 years, and Master’s graduates can receive up to 3 years. Eligibility now depends on the programme and on language test results, so check the official PGWP page before choosing a programme.
An eligible full-time student may work up to 24 hours a week off campus during term and without limit in scheduled breaks. This was the rule on canada.ca in October 2026.
Tuition differs by province, university and programme. We prepare a cost sheet for every university on the shortlist: tuition, living costs, insurance and travel for each year of the degree. Plan on meeting the full cost without income from part-time work.
