Dr. Manish Mittal: Career Counsellor and Study Abroad Consultant
They came with dreams. I saw the gaps, and built the maps.
Career counsellor and study abroad consultant in Surat since 2000
Dr. Manish Mittal is a career counsellor and study abroad consultant in Surat, and the founder of Global Careers. Since 2000 he has guided school students, college students, working graduates and their parents on what to study, where to study it and how to get there, from a bachelor’s degree to a Master’s, an MBA or a PhD, in India and abroad.
He trained as a mechanical engineer, then took an M.A. in Education and a PhD in Psychology with career counselling as his subject. His work rests on psychometric assessment, long-term profile building and honest guidance.
He describes his way of working simply: listen without judgement, guide without pressure, and stay committed for the long term. After 26 years, some of the parents who bring their children to him were once his students.

What he tells every family
- Start in Grade 9. Grade 10 is still in time. The weeks before a stream or a college major must be chosen are too late to do it well.
- Counselling starts a conversation. Its findings need time and real activity before anyone should rely on them.
- Choose a counsellor as you would choose a lawyer: qualified, experienced and credible.
- Be careful with quick online reports. A cheap AI-generated career report can cost a family far more in the long run.
- In the IB, IGCSE and ICSE, subjects matter as much as scores. Subjects that do not match the intended course can cost a student a university place despite good marks.
Where his students have been admitted
Abroad: the University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Johns Hopkins and the University of Michigan in the USA; the University of Toronto, UBC and McGill in Canada; LSE and London Business School in the UK; NUS, NTU and SMU in Singapore; and ESADE in Spain.
In India: the IITs, the IIMs and their IPM programme, ISB, the National Law School of India University, NID and NIFT, and Ashoka, Krea, Plaksha, O.P. Jindal, NMIMS, Symbiosis and Christ universities.

Areas of work
Career counselling and psychometric assessment
As chief counsellor he develops the assessments used at Global Careers, personally verifies each student’s results with his team, including the MBTI, and writes every report himself. No part of a report is generated by software or AI.
Profile building
For school students from Grade 9 (Class 9), and for college students preparing for a Master’s, MBA or PhD: projects, research, internships and activities that turn an interest into a record a university can read.
Admissions in India and abroad, from undergraduate to PhD
The choice of course and university, applications, essays and scholarships, for the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and India.
Teaching
Teaching has been part of his work since 2000, and he remains part of the coaching team at Global Careers, alongside a mathematics faculty member and a second verbal faculty member. After 26 years of teaching he now works as the master trainer: he conducts master classes for IELTS students on essay writing and speaking, and trains GRE and SAT students in the verbal sections, with a particular focus on vocabulary. He calls himself a lexicomane, a lover of words.
Work with schools and colleges
- Dean, Career Planning and Student Development, Tapti Valley International School, Surat, from May 2025 to April 2026, where he led DISHA, a school-wide career development programme.
- Career sessions and admissions workshops at SVNIT, PP Savani, SCET, Pithawala, Bhagwan Mahavir University, Auro University, Fountainhead, Agarwal, ESSAR and GD Goenka, among others.
- Surat Summer School 2026: six days in May 2026 in which 12 universities ran bootcamps for students in Surat.
