Study in Switzerland: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa

Study in Switzerland

Studying in Switzerland: how we help

Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in Switzerland: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the student visa application. Switzerland is known for ETH Zurich and EPFL in science and engineering, and for its hospitality management schools.

Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.

Study in Switzerland

Studying in Switzerland: the essentials

  • Applying: directly to each institution.
  • Where: the two federal institutes of technology (ETH Zurich and EPFL), the cantonal universities, and universities of applied sciences. Most hospitality schools are private.
  • Language: most bachelor’s degrees are taught in German, French or Italian. Many Master’s degrees are taught in English.
  • Indian school certificates: each university sets additional requirements for bachelor’s applicants with foreign certificates. Check them before applying.
  • Intake: September.
  • Visa: a national visa, followed by a residence permit from the canton.

How we work with students applying to Switzerland

Switzerland is usually a Master’s destination for Indian students, in engineering, the sciences and finance, or a choice for hospitality management. Admission to ETH Zurich and EPFL is academic and exact: they compare the first degree with their own bachelor’s curriculum. We check that match before the student spends time on the application.

The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.

Frequently asked questions

Directly to the university, with degree transcripts, course descriptions, a statement and references for a Master’s. For a bachelor’s degree, the university will state what it requires in addition to the Indian school certificate.

For most bachelor’s degrees, yes. Many Master’s degrees are taught in English.

Tuition at public universities is moderate, but living costs are among the highest in Europe. We prepare a cost sheet for every university on the shortlist: tuition, living costs, insurance and travel for each year of the degree. Plan on meeting the full cost without income from part-time work.

No. Global Careers guides students on admissions and student visas only. Permanent residency and work visas are immigration matters decided by the government of Switzerland, and the rules change often. Please check the official government website.
