Study in New Zealand: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa

Study in New Zealand

Studying in New Zealand: how we help

Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in New Zealand: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the student visa application. New Zealand has eight universities, all publicly funded, along with institutes of technology.

Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.

Studying in New Zealand: the essentials

  • Applying: directly to each university. New Zealand has eight universities, and institutes of technology that offer applied degrees.
  • Intakes: February and July.
  • Length: three years for most bachelor’s degrees, one to two years for a Master’s.
  • Visa: the Fee Paying Student Visa, issued by Immigration New Zealand.
  • Work: part-time work during study and a Post Study Work Visa after it are available to students who meet the conditions. Both have changed recently, so read the current rule before relying on it.

How we work with students applying to New Zealand

New Zealand suits a student who wants a smaller university and a particular course, often in agriculture, environmental science, engineering or hospitality. We compare it with Australia and Canada for the same course, because the costs and the rules after graduation differ.

The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.

Frequently asked questions

Directly to each university, with Class 12 marks or degree transcripts and an English test. The university’s offer of place is needed for the student visa.

Students who meet the conditions may work part time during study, and graduates of eligible qualifications can apply for a Post Study Work Visa. The hours, the eligible qualifications and the length of the visa are set by Immigration New Zealand and have changed recently.

Tuition differs by university and course. We prepare a cost sheet for every university on the shortlist: tuition, living costs, insurance and travel for each year of the degree. Plan on meeting the full cost without income from part-time work.

No. Global Careers guides students on admissions and student visas only. Permanent residency and work visas are immigration matters decided by the government of New Zealand, and the rules change often. Please check the official government website.
