Study in Sweden: Admissions, Scholarships and Student Visa
Studying in Sweden: how we help
Global Careers guides students from Surat and across India on studying in Sweden: choosing the course and universities, preparing the applications, applying for scholarships and preparing the residence permit for studies application. Applications to Swedish universities are made through one national portal, University Admissions, and many Master’s programmes are taught in English. Students from outside the EU pay tuition fees.
Our advice begins with the student: the right course first, then the right country and university. For how we work, see study abroad consulting. For the visa, see student visa guidance.
Studying in Sweden: the essentials
- Applying: through universityadmissions.se, one application for several programmes ranked in order of preference.
- Timetable: for the autumn semester, the main application round opens in mid-October and closes in mid-January.
- Length: three years for a bachelor’s degree, one or two years for a Master’s.
- Language: many Master’s programmes are taught in English. Fewer bachelor’s degrees are.
- Fees: students from outside the EU and EEA pay an application fee and tuition fees.
- Residence permit: applied for with the Swedish Migration Agency after admission and payment of the first instalment of tuition.

How we work with students applying to Sweden
Sweden’s single application and fixed January deadline make the process orderly, but the later round leaves too little time for a student who needs a residence permit. In practice, a student who misses January waits a year. We plan the documents and the English test well before the round opens in October.
The full process, from the choice of course to the visa, is described under study abroad consulting.
