Career Counselling in Surat for Students in Grades 8 to 12

Career Counselling

What is career counselling, and how does it work at Global Careers?

Career counselling at Global Careers in Surat helps students choose a stream, a course and a career using evidence about the student: the Career Fit assessment, results verified in person, and one-on-one sessions with Dr. Manish Mittal and his team. It is not a one-day event. Counselling starts a conversation, the student then explores the suggested fields through profile building, and the decision is made when the findings have been tested.

When to start: Grade 9 is ideal and Grade 10 is still in time. Students in IGCSE and ICSE schools often need guidance at the end of Grade 8, when they choose subjects, and IB students need a clear direction before they choose their Diploma subjects. Many families come at the last moment, just before a stream or a college major has to be chosen. We can help then too, but an informed decision needs time.

Global Careers was founded in 2000 and has counselled more than 43,500 students. We guide students towards colleges in India as well as abroad, at our office in Surat or online.

Career Counselling

What career counselling is, and what it is not

Career counselling answers three questions about a student: what interests them, what they are good at, and which courses and careers fit both. It uses an assessment, but the assessment is where the work starts, not where it ends.

  • It is not a one-day event. The first sessions open a conversation. The student then needs months to try the suggested fields and find out which interests are real.
  • It is not a printed report. A report that nobody has checked with the student can be wrong in ways that matter. Every Career Fit result is verified with the student in person before we recommend anything.
  • It is not a decision made for the family. We put the evidence in front of the student and the parents, explain what it suggests, and help them decide.

Who should you take career advice from?

Take it from someone qualified and experienced, whose record you can check, the way you would choose a doctor or a lawyer. The advice will shape the next ten years of a young person’s life.

At Global Careers the counselling is led by Dr. Manish Mittal, who holds a PhD in Psychology (Career Counselling) and has guided students since 2000. He and his team verify every student’s results in person, and he writes every report himself.

An online test with an instant, AI-generated report costs little. If it sends a student into the wrong stream or the wrong degree, it becomes the most expensive advice the family ever took.

How the process works: five steps

The steps are the same for every student, whether the question is the stream after Class 10, the course after Class 12 or a change of direction in college. Parents take part from the first meeting.

Understanding the student

A first conversation with the student and the parents: marks, favourite subjects, interests, and what the family is hoping for.

The Career Fit assessment

Our own assessment of interests, aptitude and work style, built on established models and developed at Global Careers.

Results verified in person

Dr. Manish Mittal and his team go through the results with the student in a live session, so that the report describes the student and not a rushed answer or a misread question.

Counselling session and written plan

Dr. Manish Mittal and his team explain what the results suggest and give the family a written plan for stream, course and career.

Career exploration and review

The student tries the suggested fields through profile building. We review what has been learned before the final decision is made.

Frequently asked questions

It is a structured process that helps a student choose a stream, a course and a career using evidence about the student: an assessment of interests, aptitude and work style, checked in person, followed by counselling sessions and a period of guided exploration.

Class 9 is ideal, and Class 10 is still in time for the stream decision. Students in IGCSE and ICSE schools often need guidance at the end of Class 8, and IB students before they choose their Diploma subjects. In Classes 11 and 12 the focus moves to the course and the college. Whatever the stage, come early: counselling starts a process of exploration, and that takes time.

No. The assessment and the first sessions give a direction. The student then explores the suggested fields through projects, courses and conversations with people who do that work, and we review what they have learned. A finding that survives a year of real activity can be trusted.

Career Fit measures interests on Holland’s RIASEC model, aptitude with a timed test, and work style on Jungian type dimensions. Its results are verified with the student in person, which removes most of the errors a questionnaire can produce. Read more about the Career Fit assessment.

No. Dr. Manish Mittal and his team check the results with the student in person, and he writes every report himself. No software or AI writes it.

No. The first question is what the student should study. Where to study it, in India or abroad, comes after that, and many of our students choose Indian universities. See Study in India.

Yes. We ask parents to attend the first conversation and the counselling session. A decision that the student and the parents have reached together is far more likely to last.

The student starts exploring the recommended fields through profile building: projects, short courses, competitions, internships and summer programmes. We then review the plan with the family. For students applying to universities that read the whole application, this work also becomes the profile.

That is normal at this age, and it is the reason we recommend starting early and reviewing the plan. We also look for courses that keep more than one path open.

We advise on which exams are worth writing for the chosen course, such as JEE, NEET, CUET, IPMAT, CLAT, NID DAT or the SAT. We coach only for the SAT, GRE and IELTS. We do not coach for Indian entrance exams.

Yes, as a matter of direction. We help the student understand which degree and which competitive examinations lead to careers such as the civil services, and what the preparation involves. We do not provide job placement, and we do not coach for recruitment examinations.

Yes. Students in other cities and abroad follow the same process on video calls. See online career counselling.

An online test gives you a report. Here the assessment was developed in-house, Dr. Manish Mittal and his team verify the results with the student, the family meets them in person, and the student leaves with a written plan that we review later. You are paying for judgement and time, not for a printout.

An introductory session with our team, in which we explain how our counselling works, is free. A consultation with Dr. Manish Mittal is paid and is by appointment only.
